  • Day 3:
    KATHMANDU – NYALAM (3750 m.)

Morning, you should be ready to leave at 5.30 a. m. from Kathmandu. Today, we have to cross an extensive distance with immigration formalities both in Nepal and China. The journey from Kathmandu to Kodari (the border town of Nepal) takes about 4 hours. The distance to cross is only 115 km, but it is a mountain highway so it takes long time.

After completing immigration formalities in Nepal side, you will walk through the friendship bridge, where you will meet our Chinese guide and will receive you then bring you to the Chinese immigration for checking visa & permit and other custom formalities as per their law. After crossing immigration, you will board on vehicle then start for Zhang Mu then continue Nyalam. You will reach Nyalam only in the evening.

  • Day 4:

Today, you will rest in Nyalam for acclimatization purpose. Since, you are coming all the way from sea-level to this extreme height, your body should be acclimatized properly before gaining further height. So, we are keeping you here for two nights.

Rather than staying in hotel, you are advised to wander around the city and make short walk around the Nyalam. Keeping your body active will help you more. Primary symptoms such as headache, breathlessness, dizziness etc. are normal to get in such height. Keep drinking lots of water, eating fluids and keeping your body warm will help.

  • Day 5:

Morning after breakfast, you will set off from Nyalam to Dongba. On the way you will cross high passes Lablung-La (5100 m) where you will take a short break to take pictures and see the stunning views of entire Himalayan ranges on south. On the west you can see the tallest mountain of Tibet, the Mt. Shishapangma (8013 m / 26289 ft.). Then after we leave the main highway and heat out towards west to the Mt. Shishapangma grassland through Lake Peiku Tso (from where you can see the magnificent view of Ganesh Parvat) and Brahmaputra River. Lunch will be serve in the bank of Brahmaputra river.

After lunch continue drive to Saga crossing over two small high passes and the River Brahmaputra. From Saga, we continue drive to Dongba. The distance between Saga and Dongba is about 150 km. The drive takes about 2 hours.

  • Day 6:

Early morning, we will depart from Dongba for our further destination, the lake Manasarovar. Today, we will take holy dip & perform pooja in Lake Manasarovar on the way, so we have to pack your clothes and other stuff accordingly.

Before reaching Paryang, we will traverse through a couple of high passes, wide pastures both sides and some sand dunes. Paryang is a small county where the Chinese military force has its regional base. On the way, there a military barricade where they will inspect our vehicles and check travel documents. We will stop for lunch break after crossing this check post.

After lunch, you will drive over Mayum La pass that is 5200m high from the sea level, the highest pass crossing by vehicle. After 2 hours further drive, reach lake Manasarovar passing through pastures, small lakes and Tibetan villages. Here, you have to swap our vehicles in Lake Mansarovar. Pollution free vehicles have been operating by the Chinese government in order to keep the area neat & clean. The duration of this drive is an approx. 1 hour. En route, if time permits, we will take holy dip and perform pooja. In fact, it also depends on weather condition.

  • Day 7:

Today, we have to drive only for 45 minutes to reach Darchen, the foothill of mount Kailash, so we depart from Lake Manasarovar late after lunch. Some of us can take holy dip again in the lake or make an uphill trek to Chiu Gompa Monastery. This will help to develop stamina into your body, if you are willing to attend parikrama (trekking around mount Kailash).

  • Day 8:

As usual, we will be ready to move on from Darchen to Tarboche (Yam Dwar), 7 km distance west. The drive takes about 25 minutes to reach Yam Dwar. Tarboche (Yam Dwar) is an ideal vantage point that provides splendid views of south and west faces of mount Kailash. This is probably the best place to have a closed view. The total circumference of mount Kailash from Darchen to Darchen is 52 km and takes 3 days.

We also arrange horse/s, yak/s and porter/s in Tarboche and accompany us for trekking part. Those, who are participating for circumambulation, will move ahead to Deraphuk from this point and rest will return to Darchen and wait until the people return from parikrama. The distance of first day’s trek (from Yama Dwara to Deraphuk) is about 10 km. only and it takes 5 to 7 hours approx. to cover the distance.

The entire trail up to Deraphuk is reasonably flat with gentle ascend, however due to its extreme elevation, we may feel very exhausted, and need to have break on the way very frequently. The last legs of the journey is tough with rapid ascend. But, it is only for half an hour.

Deraphuk stands at an elevation of 4920 m. The north face of mount Kailash is just a few thousands meters away from here. This is the only place to have a close view of north face.

  • Day 9:

Today is the toughest & longest journey of this trip. We have to trek almost 22 km through rugged highland to reach Zutulphuk. Literally, we have to pack up our gear and set off from hotel at 5 a.m. Chinese time. Initially, it is an uphill trek from Deraphuk but after walking for an hour or so, the trail turns into mild ascend. Half of the trail passes through an elevation of 4900 m./16,000 ft. or above, so there is no wonder if we get suffered from breathlessness or headache. Though, we should try to keep our pace slow & steady.

After making an up hill trek for about 4 hours or so, we will reach the highest point crossing over during this divine trip called ‘Dolma La pass (5600m)’ where we will find Tibetan prayers flags fluttering. After making a gentle descend from the pass, we will find our self near a tine glacial lake. This is ‘Gauri Kunda’.

From Gauri kunda, the trail leads us rapidly down through the area full of boulders and loose pebbles. If you have taken horse, we can’t even use it in this bit. After trekking down for another 1 & half hour or so from Gauri Kunda, we will eventually reach to the valley floor. From this point on, the trail is easy & flat. It is another 3 hours easy-walk to reach Zutulphuk from here.

After trekking for a while in glaciers (3 km) we reach to the semi vertical ice wall which is almost 50 meter higher. We have to fix the rope here and climb up together. It is not a technical climbing, however, we have to fix the rope for safety. After climbing the wall, we visit Kuber kunda and Kailash east face then trek down to Zutul phuk.

  • Day 14:
